AN74.1-4 | Introduction to Patterns of Inheritance
Learning Objectives
- Describe Mendelian and non-Mendelian patterns of inheritance with clinical examples (AN74.1)
- Draw and interpret pedigree charts for autosomal dominant, autosomal recessive, X-linked, and mitochondrial inheritance (AN74.2)
- Explain multifactorial inheritance and its role in common diseases (AN74.3)
- Describe the genetic basis and clinical features of achondroplasia, cystic fibrosis, and vitamin D-resistant rickets (AN74.4)
INSTRUCTIONS
Work through this guide over two sittings of approximately 45 minutes each. Part 1 covers Mendelian inheritance patterns and pedigree analysis. Part 2 covers multifactorial inheritance and clinical genetics disorders. Complete each micro-quiz before moving to the next section. Sketch pedigree charts by hand as you read — drawing reinforces recall far better than passive reading.
