AN76.1-2 | Introduction to Introduction to embryology
Learning Objectives
- Describe the stages of human life from fertilisation to postnatal development (AN76.1)
- Explain the terms phylogeny, ontogeny, trimester, and viability with clinical relevance (AN76.2)
INSTRUCTIONS
Work through this guide in a single sitting of approximately 45 minutes. Part 1 covers the scope and subdivisions of embryology, the stages of human life, and the historical context. Part 2 covers the key terms (phylogeny, ontogeny, trimester, viability) with clinical applications including teratology and critical periods. Although this topic has only two competencies, it serves as the conceptual foundation for all subsequent embryology topics — invest time in understanding rather than memorising.
