Learning Objectives

- Describe spermatogenesis and oogenesis along with diagrams (AN77.3)
- Describe the stages and consequences of fertilisation (AN77.4)
- Describe the anatomical principles underlying contraception (AN77.5)
- Describe teratogenic influences, fertility and sterility, surrogate motherhood, and social significance of sex ratio (AN77.6)
INSTRUCTIONS
Work through this guide in two sessions of approximately 50 minutes each. Part 1 covers the menstrual cycle (uterine and ovarian phases), gametogenesis (spermatogenesis and oogenesis), and their synchronisation. Part 2 covers fertilisation, contraception, assisted reproduction, and the social and ethical dimensions of sex ratio. Draw diagrams of the stages of spermatogenesis and oogenesis as you study — this is specifically required by AN77.3 and is a common exam question format.
